The Size Effect: It is Still Relevant

Friday, June 25, 2021 9:40 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. ET

Periodically articles appear that question whether practitioners should include a size premium when developing cost of capital estimates using the modified capital asset pricing model (MCAPM). This session is intended to correct some misconceptions about the size premium and show that—contrary to positions taken by some critics—data covering more recent periods support the continued use of a size premium. Join Roger Grabowski and James Harrington (both of Duff & Phelps) as they take a deep dive into one of the most researched (and controversial) topics in modern finance, the size premium. Includes new analysis.

After completing this sessionm attendees will be able to:

  • Define the size premium
  • Assess the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence for a size premium over the longer-term and in more recent periods
  • Identify how to make an informed decision about whether to apply a size premium and support that decision with facts and empirical data
