Nick Mears is the founder and managing member of Caprock Business Consulting, LLC, a business valuation and consulting firm based in Lubbock, Texas. Mr. Mears is responsible for directing all phases of the firm’s business valuation, litigation support, and business consulting services for business owners and attorneys. He has completed over 500 detailed business valuation reports over the past nine years and focuses his expertise on valuing privately-held business interests for litigation support,
SBA and commercial lending, transaction consulting, and gift and estate tax purposes. Mr. Mears also leverages his valuation knowledge to assist business owners prepare for retirement and helping ongoing companies reach their maximum potential.
Mr. Mears currently sits on the Standards Board for the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts® (NACVA). He was awarded the 2018 NACVA 40 Under Forty, the 2017 Lubbock Chamber of Commerce 20 Under 40 Award, and the 2017 Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Award. He is regularly invited as a guest speaker to Texas Tech University to speak to current accounting and finance majors regarding the business valuation industry and career opportunities. He also assists students who are involved with the Texas Tech Business Valuation Club with career placement opportunities around the country.
Prior to starting Caprock Business Consulting, Mr. Mears began his career as a valuation consultant at Whitley Penn, LLP (ranked 41st on Accounting Today’s 2020 list), where he gained important business valuation experience related to marital dissolution, civil litigation, limited family partnerships, tax/estate planning, and consulting purposes. He later worked at Hill Schwartz Spilker Keller LLC, where he worked with some of NACVA’s recognized business valuation and financial forensic industry titans, including Carla Glass. Lastly, he worked at Montgomery Coscia Greilich, LLP, a U.S. top 100 accounting firm.
Mr. Mears is trained as a collaborative financial neutral and is an active member of the NACVA. He earned the designation Certified Valuation Analyst® (CVA) and the Master Analyst in Financial Forensics® (MAFF). He received his B.A. with concentrations in accounting and managementcfrom Texas Tech University. He also holds an MBA in entrepreneurship from Nova Southeastern University.
